Ensign Peak Foundation, formerly known as Mormon Historic Sites Foundation, is an independent organization whose mission is to identify, preserve, and commemorate sites, events, and people in the history of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout the world. The Foundation has functioned since 1992 and has, from time to time, acquired documents and artifacts of historical value which it has then donated to the Church.

The Foundation’s board is pleased to announce that it has acquired and donated to the Church a locket passed down to Joseph Smith descendant Dan Larsen. The locket contains a daguerreotype some believe to be of Joseph Smith.

The board expresses its deep thanks to the generous donors whose contributions made possible the purchase of this important artifact and its donation to the Church.
