From earliest times to the present the Lord and His prophets have identified sacred places that are to be treated with respect and honor. Moses was counseled to remove his shoes “for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground” (Ex. 3:5). In keeping with this sacred trust, the Ensign Peak Foundation was founded and dedicated to identifying, preserving, and commemorating hallowed sites chronicling the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The Ensign Peak Foundation was originally formed in 1992. The Foundation was significantly involved in the preservation and creation of the Ensign Peak Park in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Subsequently, the Foundation recognized that they had developed understanding and skills that could be channeled into other projects to help preserve the rich heritage associated with the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Thus, for many years, the Foundation did business as the Mormon Historic Sites Foundation (MHSF). In harmony with guidance relating to references to the Church and its history, the Foundation in 2020 once again chose to use and emphasize its original Ensign Peak Foundation name.

Since that time the Foundation has been involved in numerous projects that can be reviewed under the Projects Section and continues to seek out ways to bring recognition to sites of importance in Mormon History.
